About our Machinery and Equipment coverage

Capital equipment demand is a derived series. It follows construction starts, mine plans, factory utilisation and warehouse throughput, and it is amplified by the replacement cycle of the installed base. Our machinery research therefore begins with the installed fleet and its age profile, because in most years replacement is a larger share of demand than expansion is.

The commercial model is shifting from selling machines to selling uptime. Parts, service contracts, telematics-based maintenance and rental fleets increasingly carry the margin, which changes both the manufacturer question of what the aftermarket is worth per unit sold and the buyer question of whether to own, rent or contract. We size those revenue pools separately rather than reporting a single equipment number.

Automation is the other structural change, and it is not evenly distributed. Robotics and warehouse automation adoption tracks labour cost, throughput volatility and floor space economics far more closely than it tracks technology availability, so we look at payback periods by application instead of assuming one uniform adoption curve across industries.

What we cover

  • Process and discrete manufacturing equipment, machine tools and packaging lines, sized against utilisation and replacement cycles.

  • Earthmoving, lifting and concrete equipment, with rental penetration, emissions regulation and fleet age in view.

  • Mining Equipment in development

Surface and underground fleets, electrification and autonomy pilots, and the mine plan dependence behind order timing.

  • Automation and Robotics in development

Industrial and collaborative robots, machine vision and control, judged on payback period by application.

  • Forklifts and industrial trucks, conveying, storage systems and warehouse automation, tied to throughput growth.

  • Industrial Services in development

Parts, maintenance, retrofit and rental, the aftermarket pools that increasingly decide manufacturer profitability.

Who uses this research

Equipment manufacturers and their dealer networks, rental and fleet operators, industrial and construction end users planning capital expenditure, component suppliers, and investors in industrial assets.

Every report is delivered with the underlying data tables, a defined methodology note and analyst access, so the assumptions can be interrogated rather than accepted. If the exact scope you need is not published here, we build commissioned studies on the same framework.
