The Indonesia pickup truck market size is estimated at USD 1,069.86 million in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 1,684.21 million by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 9.50% over 2026 – 2030. Wholesale volume rises from 107,008 to about 155,000 pickups, a 7.69% annual rate, and two small models, the Daihatsu Gran Max Pick Up and the Suzuki Carry Pick Up, delivered 64.69% of 2025 units, a share that rose to 71.35% in the first eight months of 2026.

Marqstats defines the market as the ex-factory value of new light pickups of up to 5 tonnes gross vehicle weight sold from manufacturers to dealers in Indonesia, the class Gaikindo reports as pickups. It covers small 4x2 pickups, medium 4x2 diesel pickups and 4x4 single- and double-cab pickups. Value is built bottom-up as units multiplied by estimated ex-factory prices before value-added tax and dealer margin, converted at IDR 16,476.85 per US dollar, the 2025 average. Marqstats estimates the average ex-factory price at about USD 9,998, or IDR 164.7 million, per pickup in 2025, and the forecast is most sensitive to the price gap between small and medium pickups.

Small 4x2 pickups account for 53.61% of 2025 value and are also the fastest-growing class, at 11.08% a year. Java accounts for 58.00% of value, but Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua grow fastest, at 11.02% a year. Gaikindo wholesale data for January to August 2026 show about 89,000 pickups, up 44% on the same period of 2025, and the Gran Max and Carry together took 71.35% of those units.

Executive Summary

Key Takeaways

The Indonesia pickup truck market reaches USD 1,684.21 million by 2030 from USD 1,069.86 million in 2025, a 9.50% CAGR and a USD 614.35 million gain. Wholesale volume grows from 107,008 to about 155,000 pickups, 7.69% a year, as the average price rises 1.68% a year.
Two models decide the market. The Daihatsu Gran Max Pick Up sold 40,761 units in 2025 and the Suzuki Carry Pick Up 28,461, together 64.69% of the 107,008 pickups wholesaled, and their share rose to 71.35% in January to August 2026.
Small 4x2 pickups are the core class. They account for USD 573.53 million in 2025, 53.61% of value, and grow at 11.08% a year to USD 969.74 million and 57.58% by 2030, because micro-businesses and farmers buy the cheapest legal load carrier.
Medium diesel pickups hold steady rather than surge. They are USD 377.16 million, 35.25% of value, growing 7.55% a year to USD 542.63 million, and their share falls to 32.22% by 2030 because the 2026 recovery favours small models.
The 2026 recovery resets the base. About 89,000 pickups were wholesaled in January to August 2026, up 44%, and Marqstats estimates 134,000 for the full year, 25.22% above 2025, before growth settles at 3.71% a year.
Java leads but is diluting. It accounts for USD 620.51 million, 58.00% of 2025 value, and falls to 56.50% by 2030 as Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua grow 11.02% a year and Kalimantan 10.52%.

Market Overview & Analysis

Report Summary

Indonesian pickups sold more in 2026 than the market expected, and the mix of what is selling changed. After a 13.18% fall in 2024, when Gaikindo wholesales dropped to 101,572 from 116,986 in 2023, pickups edged up 5.35% to 107,008 in 2025 while total vehicle wholesales fell 7.2% to 803,687. In 2026 the market jumped: about 89,000 pickups were wholesaled in the first eight months, up 44%, and the two market-leading small models took a larger share than at any point in 2025.

Marqstats measures the ex-factory value of new pickups of up to 5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, the class Gaikindo reports as pickups, which was 13.32% of national wholesales in 2025. Value is units multiplied by estimated ex-factory prices before value-added tax and dealer margin, and all dollar figures use IDR 16,476.85 per US dollar. Excluded adjacent markets are passenger cars, 608,687 units in 2025 and covered by the Indonesia Passenger Car Market page; trucks of all weight classes, 56,754 wholesale units in 2025; the Daihatsu Gran Max blind van and minibus, 18,212 units; electric buses, trucks and vans, USD 32.04 million; and pickups imported by state buyers outside the Gaikindo series.

The analysis is built for four groups. Pickup makers and distributors can use it to set price and capacity by class. Leasing and multi-finance companies can size residual-value and credit exposure to small-business fleets. Component suppliers can plan engine, transmission and body-builder content by class. Investors and policy teams can test the effect of biodiesel, over-dimension and local-content rules on a market where two models carry nearly two-thirds of volume.

Indonesia Pickup Truck Market Size and Forecast

The Indonesia pickup truck market grows from USD 1,069.86 million in 2025, or IDR 17.63 trillion, to USD 1,684.21 million in 2030, a CAGR of 9.50%. Volume is the primary series and price the derived one: wholesale units rise at 7.69% a year, from 107,008 to about 155,000, and the average ex-factory price rises at 1.68% a year, from about USD 9,998 to USD 10,866, because modest price increases in every class are partly offset by the growing weight of low-priced small pickups in the mix.

The 2025 base is built bottom-up from Gaikindo wholesale data. Marqstats splits the 107,008 pickups into 70,522 small 4x2 pickups, 31,386 medium 4x2 pickups and 5,100 4x4 pickups. Model-level wholesales anchor the split: Gran Max Pick Up 40,761, Suzuki Carry Pick Up 28,461, Mitsubishi Colt L300 12,410, and 16,678 for the Toyota Hilux family, with Marqstats estimating the Isuzu Traga at about 6,400 units, the Mitsubishi Triton at about 998 and Wuling, DFSK and other brands at about 1,300. Ex-factory prices are estimated at IDR 134 million for small, IDR 198 million for medium and IDR 385 million for 4x4 pickups, equal to USD 8,133, USD 12,017 and USD 23,366, derived from on-the-road list prices less value-added tax and dealer margin.

The path to 2030 starts from a higher 2026. Marqstats estimates 134,000 pickups in 2026, the January to August run rate of about 89,000 extended over twelve months, then 138,500 in 2027, 143,500 in 2028, 149,000 in 2029 and 155,000 in 2030. Growth after 2026 is 3.71% a year, because the 2026 surge includes restocking after the 2024 trough and some one-off buying, and Marqstats assumes fleet replacement and rural demand, not another jump, drive later years.

The value rate exceeds the volume rate through mix and price. Small pickups grow fastest in units, at 8.90% a year, which lowers the average price, but every class gets price increases: Marqstats assumes 2.00% a year for small, 2.20% for medium and 2.50% for 4x4 pickups, taking the 2030 ex-factory price to about IDR 148 million, IDR 221 million and IDR 436 million. The net effect is an average price rise of 1.68% a year.

The market ladder shows where pickups sit in the Indonesian vehicle market. National wholesales were 803,687 vehicles in 2025, of which 608,687 were passenger cars, 107,008 pickups, 13.32% of the total and up from 11.73% in 2024, and 56,754 trucks of all weight classes, down 15.31% from 67,015. Pickups therefore outsell trucks by 1.89 times in units. By value, the Indonesian pickup market is about 31% of the USD 3.49 billion Thailand Pickup Truck Market, which is covered separately.

Marqstats tracks four indicators to monitor the forecast: monthly Gaikindo model wholesales for the Gran Max and Carry, the medium-class share of pickups, enforcement of zero over-dimension and overload rules at weighbridges, and the volume of state-procured pickups delivered to village cooperatives outside the Gaikindo series.

Market Dynamics

Key Drivers

Five forces keep light pickups the default goods vehicle for Indonesian micro-businesses, farms and rural cooperatives.

  • Micro-business logistics anchor demand. The Gran Max Pick Up and Suzuki Carry Pick Up sold 69,222 units in 2025, 64.69% of pickups, and serve market traders, farmers and small distributors who need a low-cost load carrier with dense service coverage across the islands.
  • The 2026 recovery lifts volume. Gaikindo data show about 89,000 pickups wholesaled in January to August 2026, up 44% year on year, after a 2024 trough of 101,572 units that left many small fleets with ageing vehicles.
  • Zero over-dimension and overload enforcement raises compliance buying. The Ministry of Transportation began a nationwide trial of weighbridge enforcement on 1 June 2026, pushing operators of overloaded trucks and pickups toward vehicles that carry their rated load.
  • Rural and resource regions are growing faster than Java. Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua together account for 38.50% of 2025 value and grow at 10.02% to 11.02% a year as plantation, mining and village-cooperative logistics expand.
  • Local assembly keeps prices stable. Daihatsu, Suzuki, Toyota, Mitsubishi and Isuzu build their pickups in Indonesian plants, so a weaker rupiah, at IDR 16,476.85 per dollar in 2025, raises costs less than it would for imported models.

Key Restraints

Four constraints could slow growth or shift volume away from the factory-to-dealer channel.

  • State-procured imports could bypass dealers. Agrinas Pangan Nusantara planned a Rp 25 trillion import of 105,000 Indian 4x4 pickups for village cooperatives, equal to 98.12% of 2025 pickup wholesales. It agreed on 23 February 2026 to postpone the plan after objections from parliament and Gaikindo, and any units delivered stay outside the factory-to-dealer series.
  • Two models carry the market. With 64.69% of 2025 units in two small models, a recall, a supply interruption or a price change on either model moves total volume, and makers of medium and 4x4 pickups cannot offset it.
  • Biodiesel raises demands on diesel pickups. B50 became mandatory on 1 July 2026, and diesel medium and 4x4 pickups must run on a fuel blend with more palm oil, which raises fuel-system requirements and ownership risk for the 46.39% of value that sits in the medium and 4x4 classes.
  • Price sensitivity limits upgrades. Small-business buyers choose the cheapest legal vehicle, and the 2024 fall of 13.18% showed how quickly pickup orders drop when borrowing costs rise or commodity incomes weaken.

Key Trends

Four shifts are changing who sells pickups in Indonesia and how they are specified.

  • The duopoly is tightening. The Gran Max and Carry share of pickup wholesales rose from 64.69% in 2025 to 71.35% in January to August 2026, and the monthly lead changes hands: the Carry sold 3,866 units against 3,565 for the Gran Max in May 2026, and the Gran Max sold 4,233 in July 2026.
  • Factory-fitted bodies and comfort features spread. Isuzu showed Traga variants with factory-fitted air conditioning and custom boxes at the April 2026 commercial vehicle show, moving body building from small workshops into the maker channel.
  • Electric pickups remain at pilot scale. Foton and Chinese brands show electric pickups, but Marqstats counts no electric pickup volume in the 2025 Gaikindo series, and electric buses, trucks and vans together are USD 32.04 million in Indonesia.
  • Local assembly becomes a political issue. Parliament and Gaikindo challenged the import plan in February 2026, and local-content rules under the Ministry of Industry favour pickups built in Indonesian plants.

Strategic Implications

  • For pickup makers, the small 4x2 class is where share is won and lost. A price move of IDR 5 million on a small pickup changes its ex-factory price by about 3.73% and can shift thousands of units within a quarter.
  • For Toyota, Mitsubishi and Isuzu, the medium and 4x4 classes are the defensible niche: they are USD 496.33 million in 2025 and 4x4 pickups hold the highest price, near IDR 385 million, so service quality and fleet-finance terms matter more than list price.
  • For leasing and finance companies, the 2024 fall of 13.18% followed by the 2026 rise of 44% shows pickups are cyclical. Residual-value assumptions should differ by class, because small pickups turn over faster than medium diesel models.
  • For component and body suppliers, volume is concentrated in two platforms. Winning content on the Gran Max or Carry matters more than spreading across minor models, and factory-fitted bodies on the Traga open a second channel.
  • For policy teams, biodiesel, weighbridge and local-content rules all change the cost of a diesel pickup and the choice between a pickup and a truck. Tracking dates, such as 1 June 2026 and 1 July 2026, is part of forecasting.

Segment Analysis

Market Segmentation

Small 4x2 Pickups
Leading

Small 4x2 gasoline pickups of up to about 2 tonnes gross weight account for 53.61% of 2025 value, USD 573.53 million, and 70,522 units. They grow fastest, at 11.08% a year, to USD 969.74 million and 108,000 units, and rise to 57.58% of value by 2030. The Daihatsu Gran Max and Suzuki Carry make up nearly all units, and the class gains share because small businesses and farmers want the lowest purchase price and parts cost.

Medium 4x2 Pickups

Medium 4x2 diesel pickups account for 35.25% of 2025 value, USD 377.16 million, and 31,386 units. They grow at 7.55% a year to USD 542.63 million and 40,500 units, while their share falls to 32.22% by 2030. The Toyota Hilux Rangga, Mitsubishi Colt L300 and Isuzu Traga serve plantation, construction and distribution work that needs more payload and a diesel engine.

4x4 Pickups

Single- and double-cab 4x4 pickups account for 11.14% of 2025 value, USD 119.17 million, and 5,100 units. They grow at 7.59% a year to USD 171.84 million and 6,500 units, and their share falls to 10.20% by 2030. The Toyota Hilux and Mitsubishi Triton serve mining, plantation and government fleets in Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua; imported 4x4 pickups bought by state agencies are excluded.

Daihatsu (Astra Daihatsu Motor)
Leading

Daihatsu accounts for 30.99% of 2025 value, USD 331.50 million, and 38.09% of units, 40,761 pickups. It grows at 9.07% a year to USD 511.81 million and 30.38% of value by 2030, with the Gran Max Pick Up its only pickup volume.

Toyota (Toyota-Astra Motor)

Toyota accounts for 23.08% of 2025 value, USD 246.97 million, on 16,678 Hilux-family units, 15.59% of units. Value per unit is high because the Hilux Rangga and 4x4 models sell above the small pickups. It grows at 6.59% a year to USD 339.85 million and 20.18% by 2030.

Suzuki (Suzuki Indomobil)

Suzuki accounts for 21.63% of 2025 value, USD 231.46 million, and 26.60% of units, 28,461 Carry pickups. It grows fastest among the large makers, at 13.48% a year, to USD 435.49 million and 25.86% of value by 2030, as the Carry gains on the Gran Max.

Mitsubishi (Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha)

Mitsubishi accounts for 16.12% of 2025 value, USD 172.45 million, on about 13,408 units: 12,410 Colt L300 and about 998 Triton. It grows at 7.48% a year to USD 247.33 million and 14.69% by 2030.

Isuzu (Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia)

Isuzu accounts for 7.19% of 2025 value, USD 76.91 million, on about 6,400 Traga units. It grows at 10.60% a year to USD 127.28 million and 7.56% by 2030, helped by factory-fitted bodies and air conditioning.

Other Brands

Wuling, DFSK and other brands account for 0.99% of 2025 value, USD 10.57 million, on about 1,300 units. They grow at 16.26% a year to USD 22.45 million and 1.33% by 2030, from a very small base.

Regional Analysis

By Geography

Java

Java is the largest region, with 58.00% of 2025 value, USD 620.51 million, and grows at an estimated 8.93% a year to USD 951.57 million and 56.50% by 2030. Jakarta, West Java, Central Java and East Java hold the densest dealer networks, the largest food and parts distribution trades and the leasing companies that register fleets, so wholesale demand clusters there even when vehicles later move to other islands.

Sumatra

Sumatra accounts for 21.00% of 2025 value, USD 224.67 million, and grows at an estimated 10.02% a year to USD 362.11 million and 21.50% by 2030. Palm oil, rubber and food-crop logistics in Riau, North Sumatra, South Sumatra and Lampung favour medium diesel pickups such as the Isuzu Traga and Mitsubishi Colt L300.

Kalimantan

Kalimantan accounts for 10.50% of 2025 value, USD 112.34 million, and grows at an estimated 10.52% a year to USD 185.26 million and 11.00% by 2030. Coal, plantation and construction work make it the main market for 4x4 single- and double-cab pickups such as the Toyota Hilux and Mitsubishi Triton.

Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua

Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua account for 7.00% of 2025 value, USD 74.89 million, and grow fastest, at an estimated 11.02% a year, to USD 126.32 million and 7.50% by 2030. Nickel mining, road building and the village-cooperative programme lift demand for medium and 4x4 pickups.

Bali and Nusa Tenggara

Bali and Nusa Tenggara account for 3.50% of 2025 value, USD 37.45 million, and grow at an estimated 9.50% a year to USD 58.95 million and 3.50% by 2030. Tourism supply, construction and local agricultural trade drive demand, and small pickups dominate the island roads.

Competitive Landscape

How Competition Is Evolving

The market is highly concentrated. Daihatsu, Suzuki and Toyota delivered 80.27% of 2025 units: the Gran Max Pick Up 38.09%, the Suzuki Carry Pick Up 26.60% and the Toyota Hilux family 15.59%. The first two together took 64.69%, and their share rose to 71.35% in January to August 2026, so the order is moving toward a tighter duopoly, with the Carry gaining on the Gran Max in some months.

Competition is on price, reach and fleet terms rather than product features. Small-pickup buyers compare list prices that differ by a few million rupiah, the nearest authorised workshop, parts cost and resale value. Medium and 4x4 buyers weigh payload, diesel durability, financing and the maker relationship with plantation, mining and logistics fleets.

Local assembly and distribution decide position. Daihatsu and Suzuki build pickups at plants in Cikarang, West Java, and sell through national dealer and workshop networks, which new entrants cannot copy quickly. Wuling and DFSK compete with lower prices and more equipment, but together held about 1.21% of 2025 units, and state-procured imports sit outside the series.
